Do You Need to Be a Good Rider to Start Horseback Archery?

No — but it changes how you should approach it.

Horseback archery combines two skill sets, and your starting point affects your path.

If you are already a rider

You have:

  • balance

  • control

  • understanding of movement

You can focus more on shooting.

If you are already an archer

You understand:

  • technique

  • release

  • consistency

But the horse will challenge your stability and timing, and riding takes years to learn properly.

If you are new to both

It’s better to build one foundation first.

Most often:start with riding. It takes longer to learn.

What matters most

Not your background — but your consistency.
