How to Aim in Archery (Instinctive vs Aiming Methods)

One of the most common questions in archery is simple:
How do you aim?
The answer is less simple — because there is more than one way.
Two main approaches
Aiming (point of aim / gap shooting)
You use a visual reference:
arrow tip
gap between target and arrow
This is precise and easier to learn at short distances.
Instinctive shooting
You don’t consciously aim.You rely on:
repetition
body alignment
visual focus
This takes longer to develop — but becomes faster and more adaptable.
Which one should you choose?
It depends on your goal.
If your focus is target accuracy, aiming methods are efficient.
If your goal is movement-based shooting — especially horseback archery — instinctive shooting becomes more relevant.
What matters more than method
Consistency.
Whatever approach you use:
same anchor
same alignment
same execution
Without that, no aiming method will work reliably.
